Overview
This course gives an overview of politics and society in the Gulf region within three timeframes – the modern era, the post-colonial period and contemporary history. It looks at the 19 the century origins of the modern states, leftist and Arab nationalist movements in the mid-20th century, systems of government, rentier state theory and the Dubai model, foreign policy, media, sectarianism, and post-Arab Spring disorder.
