Overview
The course provides an overview of the field of public administration. It does so by focusing on its development and importance in modern government operations at the local, state, and federal levels while incorporating a strong practical component in both literature and style. The course is set within the context of contemporary political, social and economic realities of the world and of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region more specifically. It discusses the basic principles, concepts, processes, concerns, and approaches in the evolution of public administration with a special focus on the challenges,opportunities and issues relevant to the region by drawing on recent case studies from across the region and presenting contemporary themes in public policy and administration. The course examines different organizational situations from various public administration theoretical perspectives with an emphasis on important dimensions of policy formulation and implementation through the study of the policies and processes of governmental programs and reforms. Students are introduced to the field and profession of public administration and civil service while learning to think and analyze as public administrators.
