This certificate seeks to provide an introduction to the politics of Al Sharq. Upon the completion of the certificate, students will have an overview of the political systems of Al Sharq region and its particularities, with case studies of selected countries as Iran, Egypt, UAE and Tunisia.
The courses will also explore different international relations approaches to help students understand the interrelationships between the domestic, regional and global dimensions of Al Sharq politics. Furthermore, the courses give students an overview of politics and society in the Gulf and Al Maghreb regions. Students will also learn about the different forms of the region’s state and non-state actors, in addition to acquiring an analytical understanding of some of the region’s major conflicts and the relevant role of external powers.
Students should complete 4 courses out of 6 to receive a Specialization Certificate in Middle East Politics.
